Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri is an important Hindu festival celebrated in India and all over the world. It is the day of the marriage of Lord Shiva to Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva is the spiritual manifestation of the Supreme God as the destroyer of the universe. On this day, the followers of Lord Shiva chant the mantra "Om Namah Shivai" throughout the day to please Lord Shiva and obtain His grace so that they can cross the ocean of Maya. Maha Shivaratri falls on the dark night of the 14th day of the Hindu month of Phalgun, which corresponds to the month of February/March in the Roman calendar. The followers of Radha Krishna celebrate Maha Shivaratri because Lord Shiva manifested in the form of a Gopi so that He could participate in the Maharas.
